James R. O'Brien | Visit Guest Book O'Brien, James R. Binghamton: James R. "O'B" O'Brien, 81, of Binghamton, died Friday evening, October 14, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary A. O'Brien; his parents, John and Anne O'Brien; brothers, Jack, Bill, Teddy; and sisters, Bettye and Lotus. He is survived by his children, MaryKay and Michael Curley, Karen and Jim Mullins, Kathy and Jim Bigart, Jimmy and Kelly O'Brien, all of Binghamton; 13 grandchildren, Michele and Andrea Curley, Matt, Megan and Mark Mullins, Collin, Maggie, Alexia, Kate and Cameron Bigart, Cassidy, Carly and Owen O'Brien; a sister, Marcia and Don Spoon; sisters-in-law, Cherri O'Brien, Jean O'Brien and Anne Pilotti; several nieces and nephews; and his special companion, "Roxy". He was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, Binghamton, and a member of the Men's Club, Couples Club, and member of the Parish Council. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Jim was business agent for Iron Workers Local 158; Town of Dickinson Democratic Chairman; Board of Directors for Broome County Veterans Arena and was on the Governor's N.Y. State Apprentice and Training Council. Since retirement, Jim spent time on the golf course and watching his grandchildren at various sports for Seton Catholic Central and Chenango Valley Schools. Special thanks to the nurses on 1 Ross at Lourdes Hospital and his caregivers at home. A Funeral Mass will be offered at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, Binghamton, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Jim may be made to St. Cyril's Church Building Fund, 148 Clinton Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
