Margaret A. "Peg" (McCarthy) Lombardi, 77, of Binghamton, went to be with the angels in Heaven on Sunday, April 25, 2004, after a lengthy 10-year battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, John V. and Matilda "Tillie" McCarthy. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Jerry Lombardi; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and John "Jay" O'Hare, Beltsville, Md., Virginia and DJ Lane, Binghamton; a son, Jerry Lombardi, Jr., and his partner, Michael Fiur, New York City; six grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Patrick, Matthew and Laura O'Hare, Stephanie, Betsy, and DJ, IV, Lane; her aunt, Mary Leonard; and her sister-in-law, Mary L. Davis, Washington D.C.; and other relatives too numerous to mention. Peg is also survived by a fantastic group of wonderful friends, both in and out of the Binghamton area, including a very special friend of many years, Eleanor Conlon. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton, and belonged to the Sanctury Society. Peg was a graduate of Binghamton North High School. She worked for the N.Y. State Department of labor, the N.Y. Bell Telephone Company and retired after many years of service from the Broome County Catholic Schools Office. She continued to work for the Broome County Board of Elections. Together, Peg and Jerry enjoyed many fun trips with friends and family. They enjoyed over 35 summers in Stone Harbor, N.J., spending lazy days on the Beach and for the past 20 years, winter months were spent with friends in Florida and Hilton Head, S.C. Peg was enjoying life as a retiree. The family would like to the staff in the Oncology Department, ICU, Ross 1 and Hospice at Lourdes Hospital, along with all her doctors for the wonderful care and support given to both her and her family over the years. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Peg may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy Street, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, or the Samaritan House, Binghamton, N.Y. 13901.
