Obituary of Robert A. Burnett

Robert A. Burnett, of Binghamton, died peacefully at home on December 23, 2003, in his 83rd year. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Helen Hawley Burnett; his sisters, Mary Ford; and his brothers, Joseph and Dr. James Burnett. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frances Kilmer Burnett; his children, M. Linda Fimbres, Michael and Ellen Burnett, Kathryn Gardner and Lee Silviera, Patricia and Paul McDonough, Timothy and Nancy Burnett, Barbara and James Eggleston, Charles and Annette Burnett, Sarah and Robert Behnke, William and Minerva Burnett, Susan and Daniel Metzar, Janet and Dr. John Deuel; 31 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Manley; brother, Michael and Mary Burnett; sisters-in-law, Ellen Fagan, Elizabeth Seltzer; brother-in-law, Robert and Ann Marie Kilmer; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was a graduate of Holy Cross Academy, Ind., and attended the University of Notre Dame. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, a retired acting Assistant Chief of the Binghamton Fire Department, retiring after 31 years of service. He retired in 1978 to Florida where he and his wife soon became parents to needy group home children at the United Methodist Children's Home, Deltona, Fla., and later care givers to disabled adults through Life Concepts Organization, Orlando, Fla. Bob enjoyed golf, travel and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Sts., Binghamton, Saturday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Friday from noon until 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Bob may be made to the Handicapped Children's Association of the Southern Tier, 18 Broad St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790.
