Obituary of Frances Haggerty

Frances Haggerty, 57, of Binghamton, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at home after a 2 1/2 month battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Siebolt and Frances Frieswyk. Frances leaves her husband, Daniel Haggerty, of 36 years; her daughter, Kathleen; grandson, Damien; her sisters, Elizabeth Leadbeater, Eileen and Bill Van Note, Evelyn and Bob Knuppel; two brothers, Siebolt and Jeanne Frieswyk, Bill and Margaret Frieswyk; a very special mother-in-law, Helen P. Haggerty; and many nieces, nephews, and foster children. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton, a graduate of Newark State Teachers College in N.J. in 1967, and did work on her masters degree at Cortland and Oswego, and completed her masters in Math at Binghamton University. Fran was a Middle School Math Teacher at MacArthur Elementary and West Middle Schools. She helped raise more than 30 foster children and many unofficial "kids". She had enough love for them all. She loved the ocean, sailing, her family, especially Kathleen and Damien, and her friends at 12 And 12. The family would like to thank the wonderful warm and compassionate care provided by the staff of Twin Tiers, the generosity, support and food, flowers, gifts and visits from friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Saturday, at 8:30 a.m., and at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Fran may be made to Family School Spirit Foundation, 431 Chapel Hill Rd., Hancock, N.Y. 13783.
