Obituary of Jeremiah Donovan

Jeremiah W. Donovan, 79, of Endwell, passed away Monday afternoon, October 8, 2001 at his home. Jerry was loved by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Conaty Donovan, Endwell; a son, William Donovan and Priscilla Sullivan, Conklin; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Jeff Laing, Sante Fe, N. Mex.; granddaughters, Jessica and Katie Donovan; a sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and John King, Binghamton; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his first wife of 47 years, Mary S. Donovan in 1993; his parents, Ida and William Donovan; a sister, Margaret Whalen; and brother Gerald Donovan. He was a member of St. Ambrose Church, Endicott. Jerry and Virginia were only two months away from their third wedding anniversary. Though they were not granted many years together, they were happy ones. Jerry was born January 16, 1922 in Brackney, Pa. and graduated from Montrose High School. He served his country overseas as an Army Medical Corpsman during WWII. In 1984 he retired from IBM Corporation, Endicott and 42 years of service. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, American Legion Post 89 and the B.P.O.E. in Florida. He spent his winters in Florida where he was active in his neighborhood association and did volunteer work. Jerry will be remembered by his family and friends for his easy smile, gentle nature and his generous spirit. Jerry, we love you and we know you are now held in God's heart. The family wishes to thank Lourdes Oncology and the Hospice Program, especially Denise and Johanna. Funeral services will be held at theJ. A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Thursday at 8:45 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Jerry, may be made to the Hospice Program, c/o Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
