Obituary of Ann M. Gorman

Ann M.
(Walsh) Gorman, 73, of Vestal, died Monday morning, November 12, 2001 at her
home after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Morgan J.
(Mike) Gorman, and a brother, Edward T. Walsh. She is survived by three sons
and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Joan Gorman, Vestal, John P. Gorman, Tex.,
Paul E. and Janet Gorman, Chatham, N.J.; three daughters and sons-in-law,
Eileen Baker, Oneonta, Suzanne and Barry Messina, Vestal, Kathleen C. Gorman,
Binghamton; six grandchildren, Lisa, Carolyn, Bernard, Morgan, Christopher, and
Paul, Jr.; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Paul and Linda Walsh, Smyrna,
N.Y., Jack and Ruth Walsh, Fla., Bea Gorman, Binghamton; numerous nieces and
nephews as well as many special friends including Mary Ann Wagner and Ann
Herman. She was a retired Tax Compliance Agent with the New York State Tax
Department and a former employee of Binghamton University. She was a founding
member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Vestal, and served as trustee, parish
council member and Religious Education instructor for many years. She was also
active in the Women's Club. Ann was an active and avid Democrat. She served on
the New York State Democratic Committee for twelve years and the Broome County
Democratic Executive Committee for twelve years. She worked closely with Michon
Stuart while she served the Vestal Democratic Party as Chairwoman for four
years and Treasurer for six years. She worked on successful campaigns of
Congressmen Hinchey and McHugh and Senator Hillary Clinton. Her great joy was
the election and re-election of Anndrea Starzak. Ann was certainly proud of her
Irish heritage. She was an active member for the past fifteen years in the
Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Division I, Broome County and currently was
serving as President on the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Broome County
Board. She is a Past President of the LAOH Division I and held other various
offices on the Division and County level. Ann received her Major Degree in 1993
in Troy, N.Y. She volunteered countless hours at many Irish events in the
organization as well as the community. She was a member of the 1995 Convention
Committee held in Binghamton and her love of children was evident in the
countless number of hours she devoted to Project Children. As a result of her
hard work and dedication to the organization, she was chosen as LAOH Division I
Woman of the Year for 2001. Ann's warm heart and Irish smile is one her sister
and brother Hibernians will not soon forget. Until we meet again may God hold
you in the palm of his hand. She was loved by her children and grandchildren
and will be missed by her family and many friends. Funeral services will be
held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton,
Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church where a
Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Wednesday from 2
to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested expressions
of sympathy in memory of Ann be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 165 Clifton
Blvd., Vestal, N.Y. 13805 or to the Hospice Program, c/o Our Lady of Lourdes
Hospital, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905
