Obituary of Edward F. Dowdle, Jr.

Edward F. Dowdle, 75, of Vestal, died
Friday morning, December 14, 2001 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, after a
courageous battle with leukemia. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and
Mary Dowdle; and his brother, James. He is survived by his wife and best friend
of 49 1/2 years, Dorothy Lane Dowdle, Vestal; his children, Mariliz and Judge
Spero Pines, Vestal, Patricia and Chuck Zimmer, Chenango Bridge, John Dowdle,
Vestal, Thomas and Jeannine Dowdle, Ballston Spa; his grandchildren, Katie and
Ted Pines, Shannon, Vincent and Tyler Dowdle, Alan-Michael Rollo, Ryan Dowdle;
a sister, Mary Jane Dowdle, Vestal; aunt, Alice Dowdle, Utica; sister-in-law,
Joanne Dowdle, Sarasota, Fla.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Dr.
Leonard Steed, Johnson City; brother-in-law, Robert and Beverly Lane,
Charlotte, N.C.; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a member of Our
Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal. He was former owner of Dowdle's Grocery on the
North Side of Binghamton and retired from the IBM Corporation after 19 years
and received the Presidents Award. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with
General Patton's Third Army and received 2 Battle Stars and the Purple Heart.
He was a member of American Legion Post 1645. Funeral services will be held at
theJ. A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday at 9:15
a.m. and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, where a Funeral Mass will be
offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will
receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu
of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Ed may be made to Church of
God & Saints of Christ Church, Christmas Dinner Fund, 168 Susquehanna St.,
Binghamton, N.Y. 13901, or the Oncology Dept. at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital,
169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
