Obituary of Robert G. McGinnis

Robert
G. "Goob" McGinnis, 84, a lifelong resident of Binghamton died
unexpectedly Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at his winter vacation home in Vero
Beach, Fla. He is predeceased by his parents, Dennis and Theresa McGinnis; his
brother, Richard McGinnis and his niece, Catherine LeStrange Martin. He is survived
by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Clarey McGinnis, Binghamton, whom he married
February 4, 1956; his cousins, Eleanor Golden, Mary Driscoll and Godchild,
Elaine Reeves; also he is survived by a large extended family, sister-in-law,
Mary Crowley and her sons, David and Brian; sister-in-law, Eileen Clarey and
her sons, Thomas, John and Willard and her three daughters, Margaret, Mary and
Rita; brother-in-law, Ambrose Clarey and his sons, Martin and Brian;
sister-in-law, Catherine and husband Joseph Ford, and their daughters,
Kathleen, Patricia and Mary Ellen; sister-in-law, Rita LeStrange and her sons,
Michael, Dennis and Paul. He was a lifelong member and usher at St. Patrick's
Church, Binghamton. He grew up on Binghamton's west side, attended St. Patrick's
Grade School and graduated from Binghamton Central High School. He was an Army
veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of Second Lieutenant before his
honorable discharge. Bob was a member of various organizations including the
Knights of Columbus Peter T. Campon Council #206 and the Ancient Order of
Hibernians. After the war, he worked for the United States Post Office, where
he held a variety of positions until his retirement in 1972. All will miss his
wit, humor and companionship. Funeral services will be held at the J.A.
McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday at 9 a.m., and at
9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial
will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at
the McCormack Funeral Home, Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in
memory of Bob may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy
St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
