Obituary of Edward T. Moore Sr.

Edward T. (Ed) Moore died of liver failure Thursday
afternoon, January 11, 2001, surrounded by his family at the Hospice, Lourdes
Hospital, Binghamton. He was predeceased by twin infant sons, Richard and
Robert; and his parents, Frank and Elsie Moore of Norwich, N.Y. He is survived
by his loving wife of 53 years, Charlotte Smith; five children and their
spouses, Jean and Roger Latham, Wakefield, Mass., Edward, Jr. (Ted) and Julie
Moore, Marblehead, Mass., Elizabeth Moore and David Porter, Cazenovia, N.Y.,
Richard Moore, at home; Thomas and Carol Moore, Marblehead, Mass.; two
stepdaughters, Melissa McElroy-Elve and Melinda McElroy, Cicero; four
grandchildren, Katherine Latham, Edward Moore III (Taylor), Trevor Moore, and
Kevin Porter; and many other relatives and dear friends. He was a member of St.
John the Evangelist Church, Binghamton. He entered the US Navy V-12 program in
1944 at Cornell University and was graduated from Cornell in 1948. He was a
Chartered Life Underwriter and worked for the Penn Mutual Life Co. and later,
The National Life of Vermont He was a dedicated community volunteer, active in
the MS Society and the organ donation program of the National Kidney
Foundation. He was president of the Southern Tier Zoological Society and
Friends of the Broome County Public Library. He served on the board of the
Monday Afternoon Club - Phelps Mansion Foundation, and was a member of the
Binghamton Club. He served as president of the Cornell Club of the Southern
Tier, where he was very active in fundraising and recruiting. He was appointed
to serve for more than a decade as a member of the Cornell University Council
in Ithaca, N.Y. He will always be remembered for his booming voice, kind heart,
cigars, and loyalty to Cornell University. A Memorial Mass will be offered at
St. John the Evangelist Church, Monday at 10 a.m. The family will receive
friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton,
Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to
Cornell University/CCST Scholarship, c/o Cornell Club of the Southern Tier, 55
Brown Rd., Ithaca, N.Y. 14850, Attn: Jackie Wright, or to the Phelps Mansion
Foundation, 191 Court St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13901.
