Charles
S. Saldun, 85, of Binghamton died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 13, 2001. He
is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Saldun; two daughters and a
son-in-law, Carolyn Saldun, Endwell, and Patricia and Richard Kaplan, Baton
Rouge, La.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nellie and Edward Gavrilik,
Amsterdam, N.Y.; a niece and nephew, Joan and David. Charles was a prominent
Binghamton Architect and designed several Binghamton landmarks, including St.
Thomas Aquinas Church, Seton Catholic Central High School, the
Unitarian-Universalist Church and Chester B. Lord School. He served as
President of the Binghamton Chapter of the Lion's Club International Foundation
and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994, which is the highest
honor conferred by the foundation. He was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers and served honorably in the Persian Gulf Command in WWII. A
Funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Saturday at 9 a.m.
Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal. Memorial contributions in
Charles' name may be made to The Binghamton Lion's Club, PO Box 776,
Binghamton, N.Y. 13901. Arrangements are by J. A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home,
141 Main St., Binghamton.
