Obituary of Elizabeth W. Murphy

Elizabeth W. Murphy, 88, died Friday,
March 8, 2002 at Rivermede Manor Nursing Home, where she had resided since
1999. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, William J. Murphy, Kirkwood;
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rev. Daniel G. Murphy, Mary E. McGory,
Teresa and Donald E. James, all of Binghamton, Alberta Bales, New Port Richey,
Fla.; grandniece, Deanna Alden, Binghamton; 23 nieces and nephews by marriage.
Born August 26, 1913 in Hopbottom, Pa. to Ernest and Maude (Tarbox) LaBarr. Liz
was predeceased by her husband of 10 years, Jerry Wilbur in 1952; a brother,
Robert LaBarr in 1987; and a niece, Dixie King in 1994. Liz was employed as a
seamstress and presser at Dryback's Clothing Store in Conklin for 14 years and
as a cafeteria cook and matron at Cedarhurst Elementary and Susquehanna Valley
High School, retiring after 21 years of service. A member of the Kirkwood First
United Methodist Church, Liz is remembered as a cook and supervisor of many
church suppers. Funeral and interment services will be held at the J.A.
McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday at 2 p.m. Rev.
Cindy Wenzinger, her pastor, and Rev. Daniel G. Murphy will co-officiate.
Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Brookdale, Pa. The family will receive
friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Monday from 1 p.m. until service time at
2 p.m.
