John (Jack) W. Moriarty, Jr. of Kirkwood, NY passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015. Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Esther (Turner) Moriarty and his sister Patricia Russell. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley (Gilbert) Moriarty; by his brothers, Jerome Moriarty, Binghamton, NY and Frederick Moriarty and wife Carol, Hinsdale, NH; by his sons, John W. Moriarty III, Kirkwood, NY, Brian Moriarty and wife Amy, East Granby, CT, Colin Moriarty and wife Teri, Lafayette, CO, Kevin Moriarty, Conklin, NY, Patrick Moriarty and wife Alyce, Potomac Falls, VA; by his grandchildren, Michael, Abby, Colin, Brandan, Kyle, Keelin and Cheyene; by Christine (Corea) Moriarty, mother of Michael and Abby and by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Other survivors include his sisters-in-law, Barbara (David) Hoefer, Naples, FL and Janice (Jack) Calhoun, Winston Salem, NC and brother-in-law, John Russell, Binghamton, NY. Jack retired from NYNex (Now Verizon) with 44 years of service. He was a ham radio operator (WA2WUQ). Jack served in the army during the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 6625, Elks Lodge 70, Telephone Pioneers of America and the American Radio Relay League. He loved baseball (NY Yankees), football (NY Giants) and playing golf. Jack was a member for the past 57 years of St. Mary's Church, Kirkwood, NY. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and aides at Lourdes Hospital, especially Ross I for the care and compassion shown to Jack. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mary's Church, Rt. 11, Kirkwood Friday at 12 Noon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Thursday from 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Jack may be made to the Lee Barta Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Susquehanna Valley Central School District, 1040 Conklin Road, Conklin, NY 13748.
