Mary J. (McAndrew) Walsh of Binghamton, formerly of Vestal, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, with her two daughters at her side. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Joseph N. Walsh, in 2004. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Tim McCool, Syracuse, Ann Marie and Jeff Sampson, Endwell; her cherished grandchildren, Ashley Marie and Jeffrey Daniel Perry, Jack Walsh Sampson and Paige Hannah Sampson; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Jean McAndrew, PA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Harold Allen, NJ; brother-in-law, Edward Donovan, MD; several nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends. Mrs. Walsh was born in Scranton, PA, where she graduated from Scranton Technical High School. She was a civilian volunteer during World War II and was a fine jewelry buyer for the Globe Store in Scranton before her marriage brought her to the Southern Tier. Mrs. Walsh was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal for 40 years. Mrs. Walsh loved her winters at Waters Edge Resort in South Carolina and the great friendships she made there. She was an avid card player and baseball enthusiast. Despite being a lifelong Red Sox fan married to a dyed in the wool Yankees fan, she raised her daughters in a loving, nurturing home. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Good Shepherd Fairview Home staff for their support and compassion during Mrs. Walsh's final days. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Ave., Binghamton, Monday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
