Obituary of Aaron B. Archer

Aaron Bernard Archer (ABA) Mr. A died-on November 3rd 2024 at 71 years of age, after doing the best he could managing several years of declining health due to Parkinson's Disease. He passed away at his home surrounded by his family. Aaron attended both Binghamton North and Central High Schools. He left high school to pursue a study in real life. Two years later he achieved his GED and became the first black apprentice and journeyman of Ironworker local 158 serving in various officers' positions. After nearly 40 years of Ironwork, he retired from Local 60 Syracuse in 2015. He was a nurturing, patient, and unconditionally loving father to his 3 children and grandchildren who learned by his example and actions to do your best even when it's not going as well as hoped. One of his greatest joys was growing up in a large family with his 5 brothers, 4 sisters, and loving beautiful mother. Aaron was predeceased by his mother Olivia Archer, his sister Jacquelyn Wilson, his brother Nathan Archer, his nephew Andre Archer, his father Frederick Archer, and in- laws Leon and Gloria Witteman. He is survived by his wife and partner of over 50 years Karen; his children Amber Archer Zummo (Jason) Daena Archer Scharfenstein (Chris), Quinton Archer, grandchildren Mikayla(Nathan) , Kiana, Aaron Joseph (A.J); Brothers Tommy, Freddy, Stephen, Astor; sisters Romaine (Nolan), Jenny, Theresa; Brothers in Law Michael (Hope) and Chris; sister-in-law Laurie (Tom) Kathie as well as a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Those of us left behind remember Aaron's love, his brilliant humor, his perfect face and smile that lit up the darkest of places and warmed the coldest of hearts. He possessed a comprehensive knowledge of history, geography, and political science. He had the ability to hold his own in conversations with those who had far more formal education than he and he patiently without realizing taught the rest of us what we didn't realize we didn't know. At this time, we feel Aaron's absence deeply. But in time remembering his smile, heart of gold, his brilliant humor, his legacy of doing the best you can lives on and will surely guide us to better days. A Funeral Service will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
