Thomas G. Peacock, 88 of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on July 20,2024 at the Mercy House of the Southern Tier. Tom was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years Judy Peacock. Tom was also predeceased by his parents Thomas & Rita Peacock, mother and father-in-law Joseph & Helen Flanagan, sister-in-law Kay Craig and nephew John Mulholland, Jr. He is survived by his loving children, TJ Peacock (Alysia Allen), Tracey (Kevin) Wheeler, and Brian (Jennifer) Peacock. His cherished grandchildren Jordan & Ashley Wheeler. His sisters Ann (John) Mulholland, Patty (Jack) Oakey, brother-in-law Joseph (Bettiann) Flanagan, and several special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend Bobby Fancher. Tom grew up in Dunmore, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Dunmore Highschool. After graduating Tom enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for 4 years. He returned to Dunmore, where he went on to receive a bachelor's and master's degree in education from The University of Scranton. In 1961, he married the love of his life Judy, soon after they moved to Binghamton, NY where Tom started his teaching career. Tom was a principal in the Binghamton City School District for 30 years. Upon retirement Tom enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Tom was an avid New York Yankees fan and frequently went to games with his sons. Tom especially enjoyed golfing with his sons, son-in-law and grandson. Tom also enjoyed attending all of his grandson's high school golf matches. Many of Tom's favorite memories were made during his annual family vacation to Ocean City, Maryland. Tom was an early riser with a tremendous sense of humor, who enjoyed travelling around town with his daughter and granddaughter. One of his greatest joys was the time spent with his granddaughter Ashley, who lovingly took care of him the last years of his life. Tom also known as Big Bird was a kind-hearted man who believed in treating everyone equally and helping those in need. Over the last several years Tom became known for giving out candy bars to doctors, nurses, physical therapists, bank tellers and grocery store cashiers to show his appreciation for their help. The family would like to thank Dan & Tara Babcock from Southern Tier Nurse Practitioner Services for the loving care they gave Tom over the last several years. The family would also like to thank all those who helped Tom over the last year especially Kellen, Chris, Valerie, Shelly, and Michelle from Guthrie Lourdes Home Care, the staff at UHS Wilson Hospital and the Mercy House of the Southern Tier for their compassionate care of Tom during his final days. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, 1263 Vestal Ave, Binghamton, NY 13903 Friday at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760. As Tom would say "The bird has flown the coop".
