Obituary of Peter F. Bakanowski

Peter Francis Bakanowski, affectionately called Pete, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024, at the age of 81 in his hometown of Binghamton, NY. Born on February 2, 1943 to Frank and Frances Bakanowski, Pete was a lifelong resident of Binghamton who summered at his beloved cottage in Windsor, NY and wintered in sunny Bonita Springs, FL. Pete was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 47 years, Judith. His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his children, Traci (Michael) Hull, Staci (Rick) Dugan, and Peter (Rachel) Bakanowski; his six grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, Nora, Erin, Reagan, and Henry; his sister Barbara (Francis) Michalek; brother-in-laws Thomas Cudihy and John Cudihy; sister-in-law Gretchen (Martin) Fallon; nephews John (Sheila) Sullivan, Dennis (Iris) Sullivan, Francis Michalek and many dear friends. Pete led a life marked by integrity, kindness, and dedication to his family and friends. He was known for his carefree demeanor, unwavering support for those around him, and his sense of humor. In his leisure time, Pete enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, sitting by the pool, playing dominoes with "the ladies," watching westerns and "veranda time". He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, drinking Keystone Light, and singing around the bonfire and at family weddings. Professionally, Pete enjoyed a successful career at IBM Endicott, where his hard work and diligence earned him the respect of colleagues and his dedication to excellence was a testament to his strong work ethic. Pete will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will continue to inspire and guide those whose lives he touched. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church, Clinton Street, Binghamton, Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10 a.m. Burial will be St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Maine, NY. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday August 9, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m.
