Obituary of Michael J. McCormick

Michael Joseph McCormick of Johnson City passed away on May 30, 2024, at Binghamton General Hospital. His wife Gloria (Brundage) McCormick was at his bedside reciting the Rosary. Michael had been in declining health since January of 2024.
He was predeceased by his parents A. Joseph and Josephine McCormick, his sister Mary Jo McCormick (Menhennett) (Dillon) and his cousins Edward Backus and John Almy, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Gloria (Brundage) McCormick; his brother Richard (Cherie) McCormick. The flower girl for their wedding, Claire-Aimee Watkins and her daughter, Ella of Washington, DC; their nephew and godson, Sage Christian McCormick-Kelley, and Rowan Richardson of Binghamton; his nieces, Marybeth Menhennett, Jacqueline Olson, (Goddaughter) Jennifer Anne McCormick (Russell Richardson) and Kelly McCormick, nephews, Oliver and Samuel Richardson; and his nephew, John Menhennett, Jr. (Debbie Skinner) and grandnieces, Jessica McIntyre (Terry McIntyre) and Grace Elizabeth Menhennett and great grandnephew Killian McIntyre. He is survived also by "Zillions" of cousins.
Michael and Gloria met in front of the Blessed Sacrament of St. Mary of the Assumption Church on Court Street in Binghamton while Gloria was attending her first year in St. Anne's Convent in Ebensburg, PA. They were married on September 15, 1979, in St. James Church and honeymooned in Nova Scotia.
In 2017 Michael underwent heart surgery at Wilson Hospital which allowed him an extra 7 years of life.
Michael was a "Michelangelo" self-taught artist receiving recognition from Famous Artist School in 1963. He was a graduate of Johnson City High School. He even did a drawing of an Easter rabbit postage stamp several years ago used for mailing letters. He entered Seminary but a serious illness occurred. He later went to work for Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company. After retiring from Endicott-Johnson, he was a newspaper carrier on the North Side of Johnson City and was known as one of the "Best" carriers the newspaper had.
The family would like to thank Bishop Emeritus Robert J. Cunningham for making Gloria and Michael's 40th wedding anniversary so very special.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, at the corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Monday, June 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at St. Patrick's Church, Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. The Mass will be livestreamed at www.sta-sp.org
