Obituary of John L. Kotchick III

John "Jack" Kotchick III of Vestal, NY, passed away Sunday February 11th, 2024. Loving father, son, uncle, friend and prospective grandpa. Jack lived a full and vibrant life. He was 65 years old. Born the middle of three to Dr. John Kotchick and Irene (Lawrence) Kotchick, Jack was raised in Vestal and attended Vestal High School, where he excelled in both spring board diving and lacrosse. He went on to play lacrosse at both SUNY Potsdam and Cortland, ultimately becoming a lawyer after graduating from Cooley Law School. Jack worked at the Broome County District Attorney and Public Defender offices before joining the Law Offices of Remy R. Perot prior to finally settling into his own private practice. Jack is survived by his mother Irene Kotchick, the proud mother of his children, Rita (Connerton) Whalen, and the two lights of his life; his daughters, Chloe (Kyle) Kirschner and Claudia (Anthony) Panichelli. Loving brother to Karen Kotchick Duffy and Kim (David) Ayres. Uncle to Zachary, Harrison (Liz) Ayres and special friend to Colleen Farrell. A gifted athlete, Jack was an avid golfer, exceptional skier, and bowler. As of late, he had become a fly fisherman hobbyist. He was a lifelong Notre Dame football fan, frequenting South Bend through the years and later Happy Valley, holding a soft spot for the Nittany Lions; the alma mater of both his daughters and sons-in-law. Jack made friends where ever he went. His jovial spirit will be remembered. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends at St. Patrick's Church, Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. The Mass will be livestreamed at www.sta-sp.org
