Anthony L.Sklanka (Tony) was called home to the Lord on Friday January 19, 2024 after a lengthy illness. Anthony was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Sarah (Sally) nee Palermo,
his parents Adam and Genevieve nee (Olshefski,), his brother Eugene, (sister-in-law Alma) and his sister Andrea.
Anthony was born April 25,1932 in Dickson City, PA. He grew up in Dickson City and spent summers at his grandparent's farm in Brooklyn Township, PA.
While at the farm Anthony cultivated his love for fishing and gardening. Early in the morning he could be found working in his garden. He took such pride in his garden's bounty.
Anthony, an excellent student, graduated from Dickson City High School. A gifted mathematician he attended Rutgers University (where he decided to change his major)
and Temple University from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education . Anthony continued his studies earning a Master's of Science in Special Education.
After earning his degree Anthony worked at the Elwyn Institute for a number of years until he and his wife moved to Binghamton, N Y. In Binghamton Anthony taught for BOCES until his retirement.
In retirement Anthony loved fishing and gardening. Together he and Sally enjoyed day trips frequenting farmers markets, road trips to Canada, Vermont and Maine.
Tony is survived by his nephew, Eugene, Eugene's wife Mary Ann, sister-in-law Marie Myers, nieces, grandnieces, grand nephews and cousins.
Anthony (Uncle Butch) you will be missed. May you rest in peace.
Private Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton. Rev. Corey S. VanKuren will officiate. Burial will be in Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore, PA.
