Obituary of Alexandra Papastratis

Please share a memory of Alexandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alexandra Papastratis, 84, of Binghamton, passed away at her home on October 24, 2023. She joins in heaven her beloved husband Harry, parents Leonidas & Sophia Giannikopoulos, and brother-in-law George. She is survived by her three adoring daughters, Sophia (Binghamton), Dina (Astoria, NYC), and Mary (Astoria, NYC). Alexandra left Greece as a young woman to come to America. She first landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia then onto Montreal, Canada before finally arriving in New York City. She was later introduced to her future husband Harry and moved to Binghamton in 1964 where they were married and raised a family. She worked with her husband at their various restaurant locations throughout the years, but her most important role was being Mom. She was very proud of her children and their accomplishments. She nurtured and loved her daughters and taught them all the wonderful Greek traditions, including how to make her delicious Baklava and other pastries. Her favorite room in the house was the kitchen. In addition to her love of cooking/baking, she was an avid gardener and had quite the green thumb. Every year people would walk by her house just to admire her flowers. She also continued the tradition of planting Harry's annual vegetable garden. One of her other joys was needlepointing large canvas designs. Her framed works of art adorn her home and the walls of her daughters' homes. She also made sure her daughters learned about their Greek Orthodox faith. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and more recently Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She will be forever missed by her daughters and her memory will live on as they carry on the family traditions. Special thanks for all the wonderful years of care to her trusted physician Dr. Gregory Mullen & Nurse Nouan. The family suggests expressions of sympathy in memory of Alexandra be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 4121 O'Hara Drive., Vestal, NY 13850. Private Funeral Services were held by the family.
