Obituary of Evelyn A. Katusak

Evelyn A. Katusak, 90, a resident of Endwell, NY (formerly of Binghamton) passed to her eternal reward on July 4, 2023 after a period of declining health. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Mary (Vint) Katusak and her sisters, Margaret Charsky (Matthew), Marion Madden (Robert) and Theresa Wall. She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Andrew Katusak (Betty) in Florida and Robert Katusak (Connie) in Texas. She was greatly blessed with an extended family of 22 nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and many cousins. She will be fondly remembered by her very close friends including: Helen Demetry, Walter and Lorrie Kessler, Marcy Mansour, John and Beverly Harkness, Joan Tassey, Helen Kaspryk and Mary O'Hara. Evelyn enjoyed a life-long career in teaching that began at Vestal High School and transitioned to a 34 year position in the Office Technologies Department at Broome Community College. She was granted Professor Emeritus status upon her retirement. She earned both her Bachelor and Master's degrees in business education at SUNY Albany. She was a member of the Triple Cities chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Club. Upon retirement she served for 18 years as a volunteer with the AARP Tax Service Program in Johnson City. Evelyn's faith in God was strong and was central to her life. She was a life-long parishioner and donor of SS. Cyril and Methodius Church in Binghamton where she was active in a number of ministries including the Altar Rosary Society. Evelyn enjoyed traveling. She made many trips to visit family across the country, as well as trips to Europe and the Far East and regular winter stays in Florida. She always enjoyed a good pinochle, poker or Tripoley game with her extended family. In 1933, she was the first baby born in Broome County which was recognized by a $1,000 savings bond and a front-page story in the Press. That was quite a sum of money at that time. Her passing marks 90 wonderful years that started with fanfare and ended with the July 4th holiday. Special thanks to her many aides at Caregivers, the staff at United Health Care in Johnson City and her Nurse Practitioner, Melissa Skiadas, for their kindness, care and expertise. With the help of a few nephews and nieces, as well as some very loyal friends, she was able to realize her wish of staying in her home until her passing. The family will receive friends at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church. 148 Clinton Street, Binghamton, on Monday, July 10th from 10:30 – 11:30 A.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Following the mass, all are invited to join her family for a repast at St. Cyril's Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to SS. Cyril and Methodius Church or to the Michael J. Katusak Scholarship at SUNY Broome.
