Obituary of Carolyn W. Fitzgerald

Carolyn W. Fitzgerald, 91 of Kirkwood, NY passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Carolyn was born to the late Frederick and Gertrude Welch on July 18, 1931. She was predeceased by her husband William J. Fitzgerald, son Timothy Fitzgerald, daughter in law, Monica Fitzgerald, sister Rosanne Greene-Barker, brothers Frederick Welch, David Welch, and several members of the Fitzgerald/Welch families, and her close friend Rick Heatherman. She is survived by her children Daniel (Mary) Fitzgerald, Kathleen (John) Rodzinka, Patricia (Mike) Corbett, William Fitzgerald, John (Patty) Fitzgerald, grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, John, Amber, Courtney, and Jessica, 3 great grandchildren, sisters Jane Wilcox and Sherry (Bob) Congdon, brother-in-law John Mackin, sister-in-law Barbara Fitzgerald, special cousin Charlette Kiehle, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and special friends Nancy Goff and Jean Rodzinka. Carolyn was employed by the Teachers and GHS Federal Credit Unions for many years until she became Town Clerk for the Town of Kirkwood until her retirement in 1995. She was a founding member of the NYS Town Clerks Association, a member of the LAOH, American Legion 1645 Auxiliary, Binghamton Moose Lodge and Elks Club. Carolyn loved traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Her love for Ireland was well known as she traveled there 3 times. She also loved having friends and family over for pool parties and playing cards. But above all, she truly cherished being with her family. Carolyn always had a wonderful sense of humor. She was always the life of the party and often entertained the group with her rendition of Uncle Fudd. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Lori, Terri, Susie, Donna, and Hospice care, who helped the family care for mom at home. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Paul's Church, 282 Chenango Street, Binghamton, Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in Carolyn's memory may be made to the AOH Building Fund, 148 Main Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
