Obituary of Lillian G. Wilson

Lillian G. "Dolly" Wilson, 86, passed away peacefully July 15th following a brief illness. As in life, she was surrounded by family, love and song. She is predeceased by her parents Jack and Edna Wilson, sisters Rosemary Wilson, Ann Sweeney, Kathryn Dunbar, Jackie Casey and her beloved twin John Wilson and nephew Edward Casey. Dolly is survived by her cousin Sr. Lillian Marie Farrell, sister-in-law Margo Griffin-Wilson, eighteen beloved nieces and nephews from the Sweeney, Dunbar, Casey and Wilson families, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She loved them all as if they were her own children. Dolly was born in Binghamton on June 20th, 1936. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School and College of St. Rose. She received a Master's degree in Social Work from Fordham University. In her 30-year career as a social worker in Broome County, Dolly dedicated herself to those in need. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's parish. Her true passions were her family and friends with whom she shared generously her many gifts. She loved music and singing. Dolly knew the words to every old song and would break into song easily and joyfully. In her youth, she was the family "handywoman". She loved painting and has created many beautiful oil paintings and watercolors. She played the guitar and was recently learning the piano and the ukulele. She shared her talents and taught others her skills. The very best thing about Dolly was just that: she was Dolly! She was the funny, laughter-filled, singing, Irish joke telling, life of every party. She was also a fierce, strong, passionate, caring woman that everyone adored. A Funeral Mass will be offered on St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton on Thursday, July 21st at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, on Wednesday, July 20th from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 9 Leroy Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
