Obituary of James C. Dunfee

James Charles Dunfee (Chas), 86, of Vestal NY passed away peacefully at home on Thursday February 24, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Philomena (Connolly) Dunfee. Jim was born on December 24, 1935 in Sayre, PA. He was the son of Jane (Sick) Dunfee and Francis Hi Dunfee. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his brother William Patrick Dunfee. Jim is survived by his wife Philomena and daughters Bridget, Maureen (Doug), Theresa (Bob), and son Pat (Karen) and stepchildren Rich, Hilda, Emmett (Margaret) and Brenda (Bill). There is a long list of grandchildren who he loved dearly: Patrick, Ally, Derek, Matt, Stacy, Ryan, Sean, Carli, Jack, Erin, Shannon, Conor, Aidan, Eoin, and Maeve. Jim is also survived by his sister Kay Nicholson (Larry) and brother Dick Dunfee. Jim was a graduate of Waverly High School, attended Alfred University and then graduated from Saint Bonaventure University. He also served in the US Army. Jim spent his entire career, 30 years, with the Internal Revenue Service. He was active in several organizations. He was a coach and umpire in the Vestal Little League when his kids were young. More recently, he was involved with the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Meals on Wheels, and an active member of the St. Vincent DePaul parish in Vestal. Jim developed a love for golf as a caddie at the age of 12 at Shepherd Hills Golf Course in Waverly, N.Y. Jim was a kind, caring and gentle man with a terrific sense of humor and infectious laugh. He loved his family and took pride in being a husband, father and grandfather. Jim had the gift of gab and loved catching up on "all of the news". His stories will live on forever in the lives of many. The family would like to thank Tracy and her team from Lourdes Hospice for their compassion and excellent care of Jim. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, Friday, March 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Sayre, PA in the spring. The family will receive friends at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St Vincent de Paul's Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, 165 Clifton Boulevard, Vestal, NY 13850.
