Obituary of William J. Cadden
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
My brother, William J. (Bill) Cadden, died on March 28, 2021 at Susquehanna Nursing Home. Before moving to the Nursing Home, Bill resided for many years at Elderwood Assisted Living Facility in Vestal. Bill was predeceased by our parents, John (Jack) and Anna Curley Cadden. I, his sister, Sister Joan Cadden CSJ survive him. Bill worked for many years at Bates Troy Laundry and retired from the Giant Food Market after 20 years of service. After retirement, he served as a crossing guard for the Binghamton School System and took very seriously his responsibility in protecting the young people in his care-regardless of the weather.
Bill was a parishioner of St. Thomas Parish for 63 years; he served as an usher, Friday evening Bingo caller and worked at every function such as the many raffles sponsored by the parish.
While Bill was in the Nursing Home for a short time, the care he received was excellent. I would also like to acknowledge with deep gratitude the care, support and friendship Bill received from the wonderful staff and residents at Elderwood, his home for 9 years. Bill always referred to Elderwood as "home".
There were many family members and friends who made his days at Elderwood more pleasant-I am grateful to all for their support and especially to our cousins, Eileen and Bill Mlynarczyk, the late Rita and Gene Trovalli, Christine and Bill Curley, Susie and Tony Kollar, Carol and Jim Brady and the entire Curley family. His days were also brightened by friends such as Sister Alma Jones CSJ whose visits, seasonal plants, brownies and chocolate chip cookies were always welcome. I send a big "Thank You" to our family friend, Patricia Yeager, who always made and took Bill to his doctor appointments, shopping and lunch at Piccolos. To all of you, please accept our (Bill's and my) deep gratitude and love for all you have done to make his life more pleasant.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton, Friday April 9, 2021 at 12 noon. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, PA. The family will receive friends at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Friday from 11 a.m. until 12 noon.
If you wish to remember Bill in a special way, expressions of sympathy to the Development Office of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 385 Watervliet Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110 would be very much appreciated.
