Jerry Giblin joined the Lord on November 24, 2013 at the age of 77. Born on February 8, 1936, Jerry was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and served in the U.S. Army, assigned to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii with the mighty Wolfhounds of the 27th Infantry. Stationed there for two years, Jerry loved the Hawaiian life, but reminded his younger brother that it was "no place to live on a corporal's pay." After leaving the Army, Jerry worked for the New York State Department of Transportation while settling back into life in Binghamton, New York. Throughout his years, Jerry was an avid reader, enjoying the works of James Patterson and John Grisham. He loved hunting and, until this year, the NY Giants. He enjoyed walks in Chenango Valley State Park, spending time with his family and friends, and caring for his beloved dog, Kohler. Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Dolly; his parents, James L. & S. Rose Giblin; his sister, Margaret R. Giblin; and his brother, Reverend Richard J. Giblin. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Michael R. and Sandy Giblin, of New Suffolk, NY; his nieces, Jennifer Day of Binghamton, and Cara Schmidt of Vestal; his nephews, Peter Davis of Syracuse and Spencer Davis of South Carolina; and numerous cousins. A Funeral Mass will be offerd at St. Vincent dePaul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at St. Vincent dePaul Blessed Sacrament Church Monday from 9a.m. until Mass time at 10 a.m.
