Obituary of Thelma F. Sternberg
Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thelma Fox Sternberg, affectionately known as "Teddy" by her family and friends, passed away on December 7, 2020 at the beautiful age of 93. She was amazed at how old she was and would say she didn't feel like 93 at all! This angel number is associated with generosity, love towards others, and inspiration which Teddy displayed throughout her life.
Teddy was born on May 19, 1927 in Oneonta, New York. She was the daughter of Beatrice and Paul Baldwin. She graduated from Oneonta High School in 1944 and attended Binghamton School of Nursing. She married her lifetime love, George Edward Sternberg, in August of 1945 who predeceased her in September 1994. Teddy loved to knit and she made countless baby sweater sets for the Methodist church. Her gingerbread men and Christmas spritz cookies during the Christmas season were so fun to make and so delicious! She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word searches, as well as puzzles that depicted the beauty and wonder of nature that she instilled in all of her children. She had a lifelong love of the ocean in Maine, its lighthouses, the sound of the tide coming in, the cry of the seagulls, the lobster boats with their captains and the plentiful shells to pick up on the beach. She loved lobster rolls, fresh haddock sandwiches, Maine wild blueberry pie and Len Libby's chocolates! She was very proud of all of her family and often said it was her legacy.
Teddy is survived by her brother and his wife, Wallace and Gail Kelley, who reside in California and Fred Burdick, a lifelong friend. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Jeanette Hansen and Barbara Woodworth. She is also survived by her four children Sheryl Geisler of Unadilla, NY; Alec and Gerri Sternberg of Big Arm, MT; Linda and Bruce Pedersen of Beacon, NY; and George and Georgia Entwistle of Binghamton, NY. She has 8 grandchildren – Daniel Spencer, Jenny Jelinek, Luke Sternberg, Sondra Gielskie, Jason Pedersen, Justin Pedersen, Lauren Greco and Matthew Entwistle – and 15 great grandchildren – Sarah Spencer, Jared Jelinek, Jorja Jelinek, Thea Sternberg, Laurel Sternberg, Alexis Gielskie, Nathan Gielskie, Latham Gielskie, PenelopeIsadora Gielskie, Skadi Gielskie, Macayla Greco, Nico Greco, Lia Greco, Thomas Entwistle and Joshua Entwistle.
Teddy had a great love for music and learned to play the violin and piano at a very early age. She loved to sing Christmas carols. Her favorite song was "On Eagle Wings." We will sorely miss her radiant smile and love, however, we will find comfort in the verse for this song…
"He will raise you up on eagles' wings
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hand..."
