John P. O'Hare, of Binghamton, age 81, passed away peacefully at home in Binghamton Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Jack was born February 14, 1932, the third child of John J. and Nancy O'Hare. He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Anne Hayes and Helen Cecelia Campagna. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Diane O'Hare; their four children and spouses, John J. (Ann) O'Hare, David (Janet) O'Hare, Susan (Richard) Bucci, and Timothy W. (Michelle) O'Hare. Jack is also survived by his grandchildren, John Patrick, Matthew and Laura O'Hare, Michael, Megan and Sarah O'Hare, Caroline (Brent) Benkovic, Elizabeth and Peter Bucci, Andrew and Charlie O'Hare; his brother, E. Timothy (Carol) O'Hare; a brother-in-law, John (Joan) Hayes; ten devoted nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends. Jack graduated from St. Paul's High School in 1950 and proudly served four years in the United States Navy as a damage controlman aboard the USS Briareus. After Jack's naval service, he followed his father and grandfather into the newspaper business, joining the Binghamton Sun as an apprentice printer. Jack later worked for nearly 20 years for the Binghamton Press Company as a journeyman printer in the composing room. Jack was elected President and then Secretary Treasurer of Binghamton Typographical Union 232 and was President of the Empire Typographical Conference. Jack joined Prudential Insurance in 1978 as a sales agent and retired as a sales manager with numerous industry certifications. In retirement, Jack worked as a golf ranger at Traditions at the Glen for 22 years. Jack and his wife Diane were active at St. James Catholic Church, Johnson City and their Over 50 Club. Jack was an usher at the 10:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. masses for many years. Jack enjoyed traveling with Diane, including four trips to Ireland plus many trips to visit family and friends. Jack also coached Little League baseball at West End Park in the 1970s. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Johnson City, Monday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Sunday from 2-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Jack may be made to Catholic Charities of Broome County Food Bank, 100 Main St., Binghamton, NY 13905 or The Humane Society, 2 Jackson St., Binghamton, NY 13903 or just take a friend to a ballgame.
