Thompson, James A. Binghamton: James A. Thompson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully answered his Master's call on Thursday, September 27th, 2012 at Willow Point Nursing Home, surrounded by his family. Jim was born to Mary Riley Thompson and Binghamton Patrolman Alexander Reid Thompson on 21 November 1921 in Binghamton. A graduate of St. Patrick's Academy, he served honorably in the United States Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India theater during WWII at the rank of Sergeant. Following the war, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. and served proudly through 1956. He married his beloved Irish bride, Joanne in 1948. Jim worked as a car salesman in the Broome County area most of his life. He is predeceased by his parents, Mary and Alex, his wife Joanne, his brother, Fred, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his children, James (Roberta) Thompson, Hillcrest; Gary (Ellen) Thompson, Charlotte, NC; Mary (Patrick) Beylo, Binghamton, Col. Dennis (Ann Margaret) Thompson, Brackney, PA; Thomas (Lynn) Thompson, Rawlins, WY; 19 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many cousins and extended family and friends. Jim was a proud member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion Post 80, the China-Burma-India Veterans Association, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Knights of Columbus, Council 206 and the Fourth Degree Assembly. He was a member of the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Binghamton. Jim loved music, and was the leader of his own "big band", "Jimmy Thompson's Orchestra", in the years before WWII. He treasured his membership and participation in the fraternal and military groups that he belonged to. His greatest love was his wife, Joanne and his family. He enjoyed hosting family and friends at parties and gatherings and cooking his famous clam chowder. The family would like to thank the angels at Willow Point Nursing Home for the wonderful care and compassion that they gave our father during the past five years. In lieu of flowers, we request that you make a contribution in Jim's name to a charity of your choice . A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City with Full Military Honors. The family will received friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we request that you make a contribution in Jim's name to a charity of your choice .
