Obituary of Marilyn S. Doersam

Marilyn S. Doersam, age 86, lost her battle with cancer on Monday December 4th, 2018. She is pre-deceased by The Reverend H. Arthur Doersam, former rector of Trinity Memorial Church in Binghamton. Marilyn was the oldest child of John Bennett and Amelia (Hahn) Bennett. Her siblings, Roger Bennett (Julie) and Doug (Ann) Bennett survive her. Marilyn is also survived by her children Lynn (Gasdaska) (Mark Dunstan) Alexander, John Gasdaska (Stacy), Lynn (Lenny) Jago, Kirk (Janet) Shelley, David (Lynda) Doersam and Rebecca Doersam. Also surviving her are five grandchildren; Trevor and Angela Gasdaska, Christina Gutta and Kirk Shelley, Jr. and Laurie Vona; a great granddaughter Madison Wolfinger; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Marilyn was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and graduated from Liberty High School in 1950. She received an Accounting Degree from Rider College in New Jersey. She moved to Binghamton in 1976 and immediately fell in love with the Southern Tier. She was an active member in many organizations and a staunch supporter of Planned Parenthood and the Democratic Party. Marilyn attended All Saints Episcopal Church in Johnson City. She loved bowling, singing in the choir, Shakespeare, the Michigan State Spartans and her cat Boo. Marilyn was a fighter to the end, never letting the cancer that took over her body dampen her spirit. She was an incredible woman and will be deeply missed by her family and the wonderful group of friends that provided comfort to her during her last months. The love she gave to us, along with all our memories of her, will live forever in our hearts. Funeral Services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 475 Main Street, Johnson City, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Christine J. Day, her Rector, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Bethlehem, PA. The family will receive friends at All Saints Episcopal Church, Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
