Frank W. Haining died at home surrounded by family on Thursday, July, 6th. Frank was predeceased by his parents, R. Newman and Marguerite (Hamel) Haining, brother, Robert Haining and sister, Mary Katherine Stricklin. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra (Rimm) Haining, son, Theodore (Stephanie) Haining of Redwood City, CA, daughter, Sarah A. Rosenberg of Binghamton, grandsons Gregory F. Haining and Joseph A. Rosenberg, brother Joseph L. Haining of Fruitland Park, FL, sister and brother-in-law Rosemond and William Fuerst of Bartlett, TN, sister-in-law Beverly Kresge of Binghamton, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Frank was born in Yazoo City, MS, where he graduated from St. Clara's Academy. He was a graduate of the University of Southern MS, and pursued further studies in chemistry at the Universities of Chicago and Binghamton. He served in the US Army, including at the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, MD, and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. He worked for IBM for 30 years in developing new products and processes and was the program manager for new technologies. He was awarded several patents, and wrote many published technical papers on circuit packaging. Frank was an excellent beer and wine maker, for which he won prizes. He helped to organize the Broome County Fermenters Association, and was a certified beer judge, judging many contests around the state. Frank was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, serving as an officer in the local Chapter, the State Board, and the House Committee. He was also a devoted member of St. Patrick's Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and one of Sr. Alma's helpers. Frank was a kind, gentle and humble man with a wonderful sense of humor and jokes at the ready at any time. He loved history, good food, friends and, most especially, his family for whom he would do anything. The family wishes to thank the caring, professional and lovely staff of Broome Oncology who let us have him for two years longer than we might otherwise. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, Leroy and Oak Streets, Binghamton, Tuesday at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Frank's memory may be made to the Center for Technology and Innovation on Water Street in Binghamton.
