Raymond J. Breehey of Binghamton, New York passed away peacefully on February 10, 2017 at the New York State Veterans' Home at Oxford with his wife, Carol by his side. Ray, affectionately known as "Smiley Guy" or "Raymo" by his friends was 90 years old. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol (Capalaces) Breehey; his daughter Rachel (Breehey) Mollen and his son-in-law Kevin Mollen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his daughter-in-law Sonya (Walter) Breehey of Falls Church, Virginia, and grandchildren Julia Mollen, Abigail Breehey, Morgan Mollen, Sadie Mollen and William Mollen. He is pre-deceased by his parents Abraham and Sadie Breehey, brother Fred Breehey, sisters Elizabeth (Breehey) Basmajian and Agnes (Breehey) Aswad as well as his loving son Abraham F. Breehey. Ray was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and St. Bonaventure University. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and the Parish of SS John and Andrew, and he lived his faith. Ray sold used cars on Conklin Avenue in Binghamton for four decades and eventually sold one to the woman who would become his wife. Ray will be most remembered for his generosity and random acts of kindness. He welcomed all people with a warm smile and had a gift for making everyone feel special. He also drew great satisfaction from feeding both friends and strangers alike. Ray had a love for playing golf, watching his Boston Celtics on television, and eating ice cream. However, he most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Becoming a father in his 50's, he dedicated the second half of his life to his children and grandchildren and was incredibly grateful for the life he had. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff in the Apple Neighborhood at the New York State Veteran's Home at Oxford. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton on Tuesday, February 14th at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the "Story Garden" at the Discovery Center, 60 Morgan Road, Binghamton, NY 13903.
