Panagiota "Pitsa" Carvelas, 97, of Binghamton died Monday January 16, 2017 at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Nicholas J. Carvelas and a son-in-law Anthony N. Stathis. She was a beloved mother to Aphrodite Stathis, Webster, NY, John Carvelas, Reno, NV and James Carvelas, Binghamton. She was a loving grandmother to Nicholas Stathis and Katherine Stathis and a loving great-grandmother to Dunlin and Winter Stathis and their mother Anna Trieller. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Binghamton and a member of the Philoptochos Society. She operated the Imperial Tea Room in Norwich with her husband and brother-in-law Christos Carvelas. The family wishes to thank the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and Susquehanna Nursing Center for the loving care they gave to Pitsa. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 214 Court Street, Binghamton, Friday at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Fr. Michael Bahlatzis, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in Pitsa's name may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
