Obituary of Peter C. Davis
Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peter Clark Davis of, Johnson City, was a cherished son, brother, nephew, uncle and cousin with an unassuming manner, a sly sense of humor, natural empathy and a generous heart. He died unexpectedly of natural causes on Friday, January 6, 2017. Peter was 45 years old. Peter Davis had many good friends because he was a good friend to many. As one of them said shortly after Peter's death, "Anyone who spent five minutes with him came away saying, 'What a great guy.' Peter kept his own counsel and marched to his own beat. At times he could be downright eccentric in an agreeably stubborn way. He also could be remarkably patient and considerate to those in need of consideration. Peter spent most of his professional career in human services, working for both the Children's Home and Broome County Social Services. His world view didn't come equipped with rose-colored glasses, and he always saw the reality beyond the mission statement. Nobody sold Peter Davis a bill of goods. Perhaps that's why he had a solid reputation for finding practical solutions, no matter how temporary, with a minimum of bureaucracy and red tape. Peter grew up in Binghamton and graduated from Binghamton High School and Syracuse University. He loved nature and lived for a time after college in Boulder, Colorado, where he hiked in the solitude of the Front Range and cast trout flies in the Big Thompson River. Here at home he always looked forward to golf with friends, especially when playing in special benefit tournaments. Peter was a shrewd student of several sports and a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Dallas Cowboys. He also was loyal to his adopted Johnson City home. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Fletcher and Betty (Clark) Munger and Kimball and Patricia Davis, and his aunt, Christina (Prew) Davis. Survivors include his parents, Jeffery K. and Sydney M. Davis, Town of Binghamton, N.Y., brother Stephen K. Davis, New Britain, CT; uncle Jonathan K. (Roxanne Lelik) Davis, Saratoga Springs, NY; cousins Jonathan K. Davis Jr., Minneapolis, MN, and Stephanie K. Davis and her husband Rayan Aguam, Saratoga Springs, NY; nephews Anthony and Nicholas Davis; niece Angelina Davis, and sister-in-law Mary DiPaola, all of West Hartford, CT. There will be no calling hours. The family will say goodbye to Peter privately and celebrate his life and memory with family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so are asked to make a contribution to the Children's Home c/o Children's Home, 1182 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY 13901.
