Obituary of Philip J. Kuehner
Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Philip J. Kuehner, 75, a lifelong resident of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31. His wife Colleen (Connors) was faithfully by his side as he departed on his last great trip. His loving family surrounded him in prayer. He was born on All Saint's Day to Paul and Mary Kuehner. Phil loved to reminisce about his youth, telling stories of fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, and all sorts of mischief. He graduated from St. James after giving the nuns a real reason to pray. He attended St. Patrick's until he joined the Air Force. He held degrees from BCC and SUNY Binghamton. Philip served in the Army National Guard and like his father before him was part of a combat engineering battalion. He was truly a jack of all trades. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband and father to five children. His happiest days were spent with his family on countless trips, camping and boating, especially at Raquette Lake and Cape Cod. He imparted much wisdom through many lessons over the years. His wit and humor are legendary. He was a night owl who loved to visit, counsel, and give haircuts. Ethel Street was always open. He leaves his children Katie Kuehner, Bridgette (Andrew) McManus, Kevin (Jill), Michael, and Maureen (Eric) Lanious. His precious grandchildren Grace, Gabe, Sam, Anna, Margaret, Elizabeth, Mary Grace, Ethan, and Alexander will miss their PopPop. He also leaves his brother, Denis (Sarah) and sister, Marie (Bill) Bendert. He was predeceased by his brother, Gary. He was funny Uncle Phil to many nieces and nephews, but especially to Joe McCormack who held a special place in his heart. He was sad to leave all of us and hated goodbyes but will be rejoicing in paradise. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Main Street, Johnson City Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, Pa. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Sunday from 4-7 p-m.
