At times like these when tragedy so significant strikes words we mortals have fail.
Yet, in the midst of our disbelief, desperate for understanding the words of our heroes and our faith can sometimes provide comfort, if only for a moment.
To that end, I offer these, knowing your grief is beyond words.
"The church is catholic, universal, so are all her actions; all that she does, belongs to all. When she baptizes a child, that action concerns me; for that child is thereby connected to that head which is my head too, and ingraffed into that body, whereof I am a member. And when she buries a man, that action concerns me; all mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated; God employs several translators; some pieces are translated by age, some by sickness, some by war, some by justice; but God's hand is in every translation, and his hand shall bind up all our scattered leaves again for that library where every book shall lie open to one another;" ... John Donne
"Will it be for always ...my astonishment at this vast emptiness?
The loss felt over and over again, like the same leg cut off time after time, the first plunge of the knife into the flesh felt again and again"... C.S. Lewis
"The soul takes flight to a world invisible
and there arriving is assured of bliss in paradise"... Plato
It is said we die two deaths, the first when our breath leaves our body and the next when the last person who knew us utters our name.
In your beautiful obituary, it is clear Davette will live on in all of you forever known as I have come to know her though the loveing stories of her sister, my lifelong friend Martee.
