Richard D. Clendening, 78 of Kirkwood, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 12, 2016 at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center. He was born April 5, 1937 and was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Florence Clendening; his brother, Frank Jr. "Sony" Clendening; and his sister, Shirley Clendening. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou (Cullen) Clendening; his daughters and sons-in-law, Joan (April) and Mark Rauscher, Patty and John Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Keely and Andrew Rauscher, Courtney and Jessica Fitzgerald. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Hillcrest. Dick worked at Binghamton Tractor and Supply and International Paper. He had 40 years of service with the Five Mile Point Fire Department, was a member of Broome Fire Police and the Broome County Firefighters Association and a member of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs and FASNY and VEPASNY. He enjoyed bowling, western movies, working on his tractor and always helping his grandkids and family. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Chenango Street, Hillcrest Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Thursday from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Dick may be made to Fireman's Home on the Hudson, 125 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson, NY 12534.
