Obituary of Anthony J. Mihalko
Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The greatest generation lost another hero on October 25, 2015. Anthony was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph, Rev. Edwin (Michael), OFM, CONV, Elizabeth, Mary Higgins; and his loving wife of 46 years, Marian. He is survived by his son, Joseph and daughter-in-law, Mary; his grandchildren, Andrew, Michael and Anna; cousins, nephews, nieces, and godchildren. Known to his friends as "The Boss", he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he reached the rank of Sergeant and was the radio man for the 60th Fighter Squadron and was deployed to (CBI) China, Burma, and India. Following the war, he worked as a civilian for the Air Force and the Navy as an Archive Clerk and a Statistical Clerk for 17 years. He then became an employee of the US Post Office for another 17 years. Anthony was a parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. In his later years, he worked as the Church Sacristan for 22 years. While working at St. Thomas, he took meticulous care of his wife for 6 years at home following her stroke. Anthony was raised in a very devout Catholic family and shared that devotion with his own family and grandchildren. His family considered him a source of information regarding the Church and its' ceremonies. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Ave., Binghamton on Friday at 10am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton on Thursday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Anthony may be made to Little Sisters of St. Francis, 4 Aquinas St., Binghamton, NY 13905 or S.S. Cyril & Methodius Sisters, 580 Railroad St., Danville, PA 17821.
