Martin, Maurice O'Brien Binghamton: Maurice O. Martin, 60, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. He will be remembered fondly to all who came to know him as "Moe". He was predeceased by his father and mother, William J. and Margaret O. Martin. He is survived by his five brothers and their spouses; William J. and Mary, Palos Verdes, CA, Christopher and Mary Anne, Rochester, NY, David P. and Pamela, Fairport, NY, Gary P. and Joanne, Marietta, GA and Dr. Gerard R. and Roberta, Chevy Chase, MD. Moe was loved by his many nephews and nieces; Nikki, John, Dan, Adam, Luke, Connor, Keri, Sean, Andrew, Eric, Erin, Trevor, Bethany, Collin and Tyler. Also survived by uncle and aunts; Charlie and Rita Martin and Betty Martin; numerous cousins and family friends; Bob and Joan Ryan. Moe was in every way a special individual. He spent much of his early childhood at the Rome School for the Retarded before returning to Broome Developmental Center on Glenwood Road. He worked for many years in the laundry room where he earned a wonderful reputation as an excellent and happy worker. Moe was rarely seen without his cassette or walkman; he loved music and was always ready to dance. He was known for his gentle kiss on the hand when he made your acquaintance. His sense of humor was boundless and his laugh did truly come from his belly. Moe eventually transferred to an adult residential home at Taft Road, Endicott where he spent many wonderful years with a terrific staff. His 50th birthday party was a milestone event that he cherished. As his medical issues required more advanced care, Moe returned to Broome Developmental where he would spend his final years with another wonderful staff of caring people. Moe Martin was shouldered with a disability in life that many in life would stumble beneath. But a close look at how Moe lived illustrated a profile for a man, dedicated to his job, loyal to his friends, utilizing his abilities to their fullest, always cheerful and kind to others. Moe will be greatly missed by relatives and friends. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A.
