Maine: Anne-Marie (Menkart) Gallagher, 83, of Maine, NY, passed away April 14 at the home of her daughter, Joan, in Clifton Park, NY, some weeks after suffering a major stroke. Born on February 25, 1929 in Strakonice, Czechoslovakia to Rudolf and Milada (Fischer) Menkart, she moved with her family to Rouen, France in 1939, to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1940, and to the United States in 1941, where the family settled in New York City. Following high school at the Cherry Lawn School in Darien, CT, she attended Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA, graduating in 1950. In the same year she married A. Wendell Gallagher of Binghamton, her husband of 58 years (deceased, 2009). She lived in the town of Maine from 1952 until the final months of her life. She is survived by her sister, Eva (Jonathan) Olds; and her twin brother, George (Ellie) Menkart; her 13 children, Theresa and Patrick Fagan, John and Janice Gallagher, Thomas and Hilda Gallagher, Fr. Timothy Gallagher, O.M.V., Neil and Marie Siobhan Gallagher, David Gallagher, Suzanne and Kermit O'Neal, James and Margaret Gallagher, Brian and Theresa Gallagher, Sr. Timotea (Mary) Gallagher, Paul Gallagher, Joan and David Marra, Daniel and Amelita Gallagher; as well as 48 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She always was and will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a beloved grandmother. She was a woman of deep, unwavering Christian faith. She was an active member of Most Holy Rosary Parish in Maine, which was particularly fitting: her devotion to the Holy Rosary never diminished from the time of her conversion to the Catholic faith while in college. A Funeral Mass will be offered by her son at Most Holy Rosary Church, 2596 Main St., Maine, on April 18th at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Maine Cemetery, Maine. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, NY on Tuesday, April 17th, from 5-8 p.m.
