Obituary of Charles G. “Gerry” VanKuren

Charles G. "Jerry" VanKuren, 61, formerly of Johnson City, died Tuesday morning, February 8, 2005, at the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Dorothy VanKuren. He is survived by his children, SSG Chad VanKuren, Marie and AJ Brunetti, Binghamton, Andrew VanKuren, Kathryn VanKuren, both of Albany, Emily VanKuren, Binghamton, Bridget VanKuren, Conn.; a grandson, Aidan Brunetti; mother of his children, Kathryn McMahon Forno, Conn.; sisters, Gail and Stanley Harlec, Conklin, Sharon VanKuren, Ilion; his brother, Rev. Corey S. VanKuren, Pastor of St. Paul's Church, Binghamton; uncles, Richard Hancock and Henry Zelesnikar; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of St. James Church, Johnson City, member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Ambrose Dwyer Council #2953, and the 4th Degree Assembly. Jerry was a graduate of Johnson City High School, Class of 1962; served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War; member of Teamsters Local 693; former supervisor for Stroehman Bread and Millbrook Bakeries. The family wishes to thank the staff at the NYS Veterans Home for the care given to Jerry for many years. A Funeral Mass will be offered by his brother at St. James Church, Johnson City, Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. The family requests that flowers please be omitted and expressions of sympathy in memory of Jerry be made to the NYS Veterans Home, 54211 State Hwy. 220, Oxford, N.Y. 13830.
